For a full day in cloth I would recommend 6 cloth nappies, to allow you to wash less often or use cloth full time 12 cloth nappies is a good starting number, although for the simplest wash routine most recommend 20-25 day time cloth nappies and 3 - 5 night time cloth nappies for full time use. If you’re using a two-part system, such as a fitted, flat nappy or our innovative z soakers in a wrap then we recommend buying one wrap for every three nappies. Usually the wrap stays clean so can be reused after most nappy changes for up to 12 hours, we recommend having two per daytime and alternating during the day. To apply for a Bells Bumz Eco Grant you will need live in the UK and ask for a frontline professional to make the application for you (such as your midwife, health visitor, key worker, domestic abuse refuge support worker, homeless support worker, housing support worker, family hub/centre worker, family support worker or social worker) from a recognised professional email address. We will only accept applications from frontline professionals: 1) who are working directly with the children or young person (or adult if in respect of cloth menstrual pads) 2) have carried out at least one home visit 3) have made a full assessment of the children's or young person's needs (or adult in respect of cloth menstrual pads). 4) will be working with the family or young person for a minimum of 3 months to ensure they receive support with using and washing the cloth nappies or cloth menstrual pads. How to Apply: Please email bellsbumzeco@gmail.com with the following information: Your full name, role and contact details including telephone number Signed consent for the parent/carer or young person with their full postal address including post code and contact telephone number for the person/ family or details of their consent if this is provided verbally. State whether you wish to apply for a trial/part time/ full time cloth nappy starter kit and/or trial / full cloth menstrual pad kit. Please note, some items may be "perfectly imperfect" seconds quality items but will still be fit for purpose. State whether the family/person would accept preloved items in their kit that have been sanitised to health and safety executive standards in line with Public Health England. Even replacing one disposable nappy a day with a reusable cloth nappy will make a world of difference for the environment and using cloth nappies bring lots of benefits for your baby too. There are so many options to choose between from muslins and wraps to a variety of modern cloth nappies. We recommend trying a variety of brands and types of nappy when you are initially starting out as not every parent likes the same type of nappy and every baby has its own unique shape too. To cloth full time, as a guide you will need around 25 day time nappies, 5 night time nappies and 5 wraps, three wetbags for when you go out and about and an airy basket (more holes than plastic) to dry pail your dirty nappies until they are washed. We also recommend using fleece liners to help keep baby dry and for easier poo removal. If you need help setting up a good cloth nappy wash routine, we have a simple washing routine for cloth nappies here. We can help you choose the best detergent for washing cloth nappies and how to make sure you get the best clean. It's simple and easy to achieve clean cloth nappies and if you are buying preloved cloth nappies for your little one or having worries about ammonia, fungal pathogens or bacteria then we can help you know how to strip and sanitise your cloth nappies, including a step by step guide for how to do a small scale bleach sanitise for your cloth nappies and how to bleach sanitise cloth nappies in a front loader washing machine. If you wanted to try a wool cover (they are magical) for your cloth nappies, these are especially good for night time and you only need two or three covers for full time night time use. We can help you get started with your wool covers here, including how to prepare your wool soakers for first use and how to wash and lanolise your wool covers for general wool wrap care. We tend to prefer nappies with natural fibres such as cotton, bamboo or hemp. However, there are cloth nappies to suit every budget and the nappies that tend to be the most cost effective initially usually are microfiber or bamboo/microfiber mix. A natural fibre alternative would be Bells Bumz own brand pocket nappies and wraps where you can buy their 4 layer bamboo and hemp inserts and they also have a fitted night nappy that is bamboo with no microfiber and has a stay dry microfleece lining which is great value.
