The Period Incentive
Bells Bumz Eco Cloth Nappies and Accessories UK have launched Bells4 Change which includes our new Bells Bumz Eco Grants alongside our affordability strategy, Nationwide Cloth Nappy Incentive Scheme, other charitable donations (both in the UK and abroad), supporting Nappy Libraries and our warranty which includes an offer to repair and repurpose old cloth nappies, regardless of brand to give or raise funds for good causes.
Bells Bumz Eco launched the first Cloth Nappy Scheme is the first Nationwide scheme where you can apply regardless of where in the UK you reside. Now Bells Bumz Eco has launched the first UK Nationwide Cloth Period pad scheme! We wanted to launch this scheme as period poverty is an ongoing issue throughout the UK and we believe that through our Bells4Change grants and this scheme we can give a helping hand.

Here at Bells we know that not only women menstruate so we do not sell "women's products" or "feminine hygiene products" and we know that period products are not "hygiene products" so we do not sell "cloth sanitary pads" or "CSP" we call them "period pads" or "menstrual pads" and talk about people who menstruate.
The cost of living crisis, on top of the pandemic, means that even more people need help to access vital period products.
Period poverty is the lack of access to menstrual products due to financial constraints.
In 2017, a survey (Plan International UK) reported that 1 in 10 people had been unable to afford menstrual products; 1 in 7 had to ask to borrow period products from a friend due to affordability issues; and 1 in 10 had to improvise menstrual products. It is estimated that currently over 137,000 children across the UK have missed school days due to period poverty.

Around 22 items of period products are used per cycle and around 11,000 will be used in a lifetime.

4.3 billion menstrual products are used per year in the UK.
Cloth period pads and reusable menstrual products are often a more affordable option. Washable period pads can help minimise waste and save you money.
Bells Bumz wants to encourage more people to give cloth period pads a go and hope that through this scheme we help more people choose to reuse.
A maximum of one application per person will be accepted, this can be from a parent or legal guardian for children who are unable to purchase for themselves.

Instructions for use
Pre wash to remove factory residue. As these are natural fibres these will get more absorbency the more they wash.
Do not use bleach or fabric softener.
Mini wet bag is perfect for carrying clean or dirty pads while out and about.
Facial rounds can be used for make up remover / facial cleansing and also breast pads if needed.
Larger ends of the cloth period pads at the front, although this is up to you.
Some people like to rinse the cloth pads with cold water prior to washing.
Wash at 40/ 60 with detergent, wash dark colours separately.

Bells Bumz reserves the right to restrict the number of applications accepted per calendar month as required. Bells Bumz reserves the right to withdraw the scheme at any time. Bells Bumz cannot accept responsibility for the loss of any application and/or supporting documents howsoever caused. Items received under this scheme are non-refundable.
Local Council Sustainable Period Incentive Schemes
In addition to the Bells Bumz Period Incentive scheme with reduced cost cloth period pads and accessories, some councils offer local sustainable period incentives to help their residents get started with ditching disposable period products. Using cloth menstrual pads or sustainable period products reduces your waste and therefore costs to the council of providing waste management services.
The schemes vary from council to council and some do not have sustainable period incentive schemes available yet. The sustainable period incentive schemes listed below are the ones we currently know about. If you know of one that isn't listed please do let Bells Bumz cloth nappies know by emailing us at info@bellsbumz.co.uk.
Where a sustainable period product voucher is offered you normally need to apply for this directly through the local council before buying the sustainable period products, such as our cloth period pads. Where a sustainable period cashback scheme is offered typically you need to send in a receipt (which we provide) to claim back the funds for your cloth menstrual pads. Please do check with your local council about their sustainable period incentive scheme and read their terms and conditions before buying cloth period pads or other sustainable period products if you plan to use one of these sustainable period incentive schemes.
