Bells Bumz Eco launched the first Cloth Nappy Scheme is the first Nationwide scheme where you can apply regardless of where in the UK you reside. Now Bells Bumz Eco has launched the first UK Nationwide Cloth Period pad scheme! We wanted to launch this scheme as period poverty is an ongoing issue throughout the UK and we believe that through our Bells4Change grants and this scheme we can give a helping hand.Â
The cost of living crisis, on top of the pandemic, means that even more people need help to access vital period products.
Period poverty is the lack of access to menstrual products due to financial constraints.
In 2017, a survey (Plan International UK) reported that 1 in 10 people had been unable to afford menstrual products; 1 in 7 had to ask to borrow period products from a friend due to affordability issues; and 1 in 10 had to improvise menstrual products. It is estimated that currently over 137,000 children across the UK have missed school days due to period poverty.

Around 22 items of period products are used per cycle and around 11,000 will be used in a lifetime.
4.3 billion menstrual products are used per year in the UK.

Cloth period pads and reusable menstrual products are often a more affordable option. Washable period pads can help minimise waste and save you money.
Bells Bumz wants to encourage more people to give cloth period pads a go and hope that through this scheme we help more people choose to reuse.

A maximum of one application per person will be accepted, this can be from a parent or legal guardian for children who are unable to purchase for themselves.

​ Instructions for use
​
Pre wash to remove factory residue. As these are natural fibres these will get more absorbency the more they wash.
Do not use bleach or fabric softener.
Mini wet bag is perfect for carrying clean or dirty pads while out and about.
Facial rounds can be used for make up remover / facial cleansing and also breast pads if needed.
Larger ends of the cloth period pads at the front, although this is up to you.
Some people like to rinse the cloth pads with cold water prior to washing.
Wash at 40/ 60 with detergent, wash dark colours separately.
